ODE TO ROY BORLAND
You sing without pretensions,
petite, minute,
like the echo in the auricle
to the head of the doctor who auscultates,
ROY BORLAND.
From electronic bass,
jazzy guitar,
keyboards synthesize your prosody,
resonate in the ear with the drums
spinning, turning,
like a ferris wheel
that, like the memory,
one day disappears
and the next day returns;
returns like the melody,
the voice that carries the notes
that sings with a small mouth
the artist who calls himself ROY BORLAND.
ROY BORLAND,
you dominate the skin.
You make it bristle; raise goosepimples,
soften it like plasticine,
when you will it,
you infiltrate me,
wrap me in silk and anaesthetise me,
I listen to you, sleeping, and
the latent anguish of your venerable song
penetrates like the wind penetrates
the colossal, imposing, immutable wall
that a tiny fissure in the cement
has made vulnerable.
Penetrates to the portland cement,
ROY BORLAND.
You sing without pretensions,
petite, minute,
as does the echo of the auricle
to the head of the doctor who auscultates,
ROY BORLAND.
